Understanding how acupuncture works at The Healing Studio.
Acupuncture originated in China nearly five thousand years ago. The fact that it is still practiced today speaks much for the efficiency of this treatment as well as the principles upon which it is based. The language that is used however, to explain its theory, is mostly foreign to our western ears and minds. The original theory, that was put down in the classical text, The Nei Ching, is the Meridian Theory which concerns the flow of life-energy through the body.
Traditional Chinese Medicine states that it is the vital force, the life force in the body, that controls the working of the main organs and systems of the body. The life force or Chi energy circulates from one organ to another along channels and pathways, termed meridians, always following a specific pathway.
There are twelve main meridians, each of them feeding one of the main organs or functions of the body: heart, small intestine, bladder, kidney, circulation-sex, triple-heater, gall bladder, liver, lungs, colon, stomach and spleen. In order for all of these organs to be healthy and working in harmony with each other, the Chi energy must be flowing freely and in the correct strength and quality through each of the meridians. In fact, it is impossible to be ill in the body, mind, or spirit, if the energy within these twelve meridians is balanced and harmonious.
In all illness, the energy is out of balance. The pain or symptom is a distress signal, notifying us of this imbalance. The aim therefore of the acupuncture treatments is to restore your mind, body and spirit back to its original state of balance and harmony.
What to expect an acupuncture treatment with Ellen to be like:
During your very first session with me, we will most likely spend a good deal of time talking about your health concerns, whether they be emotional, physical and/or spiritual in nature, as well as your general concerns about your life so that I can begin to develop a clear picture of you. I will also look at your tongue and take your pulse, to further assist me in making a clear diagnosis.
I will then choose specific points to needle, with a very small needle I may add! Once the needles are in I will also, in many cases, do some hands-on energy work and/or Sound Healing. No two sessions are alike, as no two people are alike and each person is constantly evolving through a healing journey. Each session, therefore, will mirror your needs on any given day.
I look forward to working with you and assisting you in your healing process!
